Young Americans are getting poorer while older Americans are recovering well after the recession according to a new study from the Urban Institute. Those aged 38 to 46 saw their net worth rise by 26% between 1983 and 2010. Even more strinkingly, those aged 29 to 37 saw their net worth drop by 21%. This is in sharp contrast to older generations; those 56 to 64 and those older than 74 more than doubled their net worth, with gains of 120% and 149%, respectively. The article notes several reasons for the disparity including the housing bubble, stock market and lower employment.
