“When it’s built, the $58 million Columbus Commons project will be a success story for brownfields remediation, urban revitalization and CTfastrak, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said at a groundbreaking Tuesday. Mayor Erin Stewart, rumored to be a possible contender for the governor’s office next year, cheerfully agreed.” Reported the Courant.
The first phase of the transit oriented development project at 125 Columbus Blvd. New Britain, will include commercial space on the ground floor and 80 apartments in the six-story building. The second phase will be a similar building next door, creating a total of 160 new apartments right next to the CTFastrak station in downtown New Britain. “The residents are going to bring a new wave of energy to our downtown,” said Stewart at the ceremony.
