Visitors and residents of New London cheered as the New London Light Cube was unveiled as the grand finale of the Spring Food Stroll, an event organized by New London Main Street to promote downtown restaurants and shops. The cube, a public art installation, radiates rainbow-colored lights over Parage Plaza, report The Day.
The new public art installation is the City’s largest, and is the finall addition to the $1.3 million Water Street Garage renovation and $10 million renovation of the adjacent Parade Plaza. It’s the result of a partnership between Hygienic Art and the City of New London and the New London Parking Commission.
The Day reports that the lighting ceremony came close to the end of the Spring Food Stroll, which drew more than 900 people to downtown New London to sample food and visit with the more than 50 participating restaurants, gallerties and shops. Said New London Main Street Executive Director Annah Perch, “”It’s really nice for New London Main Street and the Hygienic to work in partnership for this project. It’s exciting to see this downtown even busier than on a normal food stroll night, which is always busy and festive.”
