This workshop from the Partnership for Strong Communities rescheduled this forum due to weather. It was originally scheduled for January 28.
An increasing number of Connecticut municipalities are creating a variety of new affordable homes for low- and moderate-income families. Whether those families will grab at those new choices is a different issue. Some will want to stay in their neighborhoods, among friends, family and religious and cultural anchors.
Others will want to move. But mobility concerns – whether there will be help in moving, security deposit assistance, counseling on how to succeed in a strange new community and ways to overcome other barriers – can keep families from choosing higher-resource schools and communities with the jobs, services and transit access they want.
A look at housing affordability, how parents are making choices and how schools and communities are helping them prosper where they’ve been living, or in their new surroundings.
