A National Grant Training Opportunity from Main Street America & Project for Public Spaces

Connecticut Main Street Center was one of five Main Street programs across the country selected to host this training, which represents a new Placemaking initiative between Project for Public Spaces and Main Street America (formerly known as the National Main Street Center).

Placemaking can help make our downtowns and village centers more attractive and engaging through its citizen-led process that helps activate these gathering spaces. The two-day training in April is by invitation only and will address the “Lighter Quicker Cheaper” Placemaking strategy, where individuals and communities can make immediate and affordable changes to public spaces while also building local support and demonstrating to stakeholders the potential for further long-term projects and investments.

During the training, Main Street managers and other attendees will gain the tools, knowledge and skills to address local challenges and make our Main Street communities better places to live, work and play. The training will be interactive and involve significant participation from all attendees.

This training is generously supported by Anne T. and Robert Bass and is available to attendees free of charge.

These guides and articles will be useful in your placemaking work in your Main Street communities. In particular, Project for Public Spaces encourages you to take a look at the Placemaking Guide for Main Street Managers in the Resources and Articles folder.

You can access these materials through Google Drive here.

Power of 10 Exercise
This exercise should take no more than 30 minutes to complete.  Below is a link to a short PowerPoint with an overview and example of how the Power of 10 tool is used. The PDF provides instructions, and asks that you select a Main Street you know well to quickly identify five places and the things you can do and experience there and how it can be improved.
