New Britain has approved the creation of a Tax Increment Financing District and its master plan. This is the first step in enabling increases in future property tax revenue to be used to subsidize community-oriented projects and economic development in New Britain. Alderman Kristian Rosado, who has not always supported the idea of TIF districts, was enthusiastic: “I say this as a person who’s been studying TIF funding for a long time … I’m 100 percent behind this, I like what the state of Connecticut did with it and I like the options that it’s given our municipalities across the state.”
