Last week, 27 organizations that support and utilize Community Investment Act (CIA) funds sent a letter to key Connecticut legislators, urging them to protect this critical program. Many downtowns & village centers in the CMSC member network have benefited directly from CIA funds in the past.

Through a $40 surcharge on local land recordings, the CIA has funded over 1,400 projects with $152 million invested, benefiting every community in the state. CT Main Street Center’s Preservation of Place grant program and Come Home to Downtown program are just two examples of CIA- funded initiatives.

Collectively, the CT Main Street network that represents 75 communities and 1.9 million citizens, which represents a powerful constituency.  We urge our members, and all those who support our main streets and the Community Investment Act, to call their elected officials today to voice support for this valuable resource.
