A new cafe that also provides job training in farm-to-table cooking has opened in the Hartford Public Library, reports the Hartford Courant. Billings Forge, already a fixture in the Frog Hollow neighborhood, will now serve breakfast, lunch and pastries made from locally-sourced and grown ingredients at the Kitchen in the public library. Billings Forge, a non-profit, provides farm-to-table job training, farmer’s markets, cooking classes and housing for city residents. With the addition of the cafe, about 16 to 20 residents per year will be able to go through the nonprofit’s 12-week job training program, reports the Courant. Participants will learn everything from cooking and baking to sanitation and food safety.
