S.B. 363 – An Act Allowing Municipalities To Impose Commercial Vacancy Assessments In Certain Districts
As you know, CMSC has the privilege of both seeing for ourselves and hearing from municipalities of all sizes about the successes and challenges facing their downtowns, main streets, and village centers.
Vacant street level storefronts is one of the challenges we hear about most.
Our members told us they want more tools to address this issue, a concern we shared with the co-chairs of the Planning and Development Committee.
As a result, there is a bill – S.B. 363 – under consideration this session that would allow towns to opt in to imposing a fee on vacant storefronts.
PUBLIC HEARING & OPPORUNITIES TO TESTIFY
A public hearing is scheduled for this Wednesday, March 4th at 10:30am for S.B. 363. CMSC will be testifying in support but with some suggested changes. Read our testimony.
