Georgetown comprises the corners of four towns – Redding, Weston, Wilton & Ridgefield. Small town charm, restaurants, and local businesses come together to form its Main Street.

Our Spotlight on Main included networking time, a presentation from Georgetown Village Restoration (GVR) and a guided walking tour highlighting best practices in downtown management.

Attendees heard about GVR’s participation in CMSC’s first Main Street Accelerator cohort, discovered how effective a volunteer-run model can be, and learned more about the town’s plan to clean up the 44-acre Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill!

About Georgetown

The Historic Village of Georgetown first took shape in the 1800s. It was created around the Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill, which revolutionized the wire industry during the Civil War by creating window screens. The workers needed a village to serve their needs so the Wire Mill built up Georgetown with housing, markets, places of worship, a post office, and more. The Wire Mill shut its doors in 1989 due to product obsolescence and overseas outsourcing, but Georgetown has still remained a quirky yet vibrant Main Street area.
