Connecticut Main Street Center presents the Founder’s Award in recognition of individuals and organizations who dedicate themselves to promoting an awareness of the necessity of a comprehensive management approach to the revitalization of Connecticut’s historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts.
CT Main Street Center and Eversource recognize the challenges of creating transit-oriented development: pedestrian-friendly, with a collection of attractive buildings set around beautifully-designed and well-maintained public spaces in the heart of downtown – with the right mix of curated retail, restaurants and other businesses, and the addition of residential housing and office use. David Genovese and his team have committed themselves to transformational projects in Darien, remaining thoughtful, creative, flexible, innovative, and respectful of the community.
For more than a decade, David Genovese has led numerous key developments in downtown Darien that breathed new life into the area, revitalizing buildings and reinvigorating its residents:
- 1020 Boston Post Road, completed in 2008, quickly became one of Darien’s downtown landmarks. This 28,000 sq ft, mixed-use building includes two restaurants in its mix of retail tenants, 10,000 sq ft of Class A office space, and six luxuriously appointed residences – two of which are rented on an affordable basis.
- Baywater led the renovations of 1019-1021 and 1025-1029 Boston Post Road, two historic, mixed-use buildings, as well as the renovation of 980 Boston Post Road, a mixed-use building located across from Darien’s Metro North Train Station. In collaboration and partnership with the Town of Darien, Baywater initiated the renovation of the streetscape from Brook Street to Day Street.
- Completed in 2013, 745 Boston Post Road is an 18,000 sq ft, three-story mixed-use building consisting of two commercial office spaces and eight luxury apartments. The apartments are beautifully appointed with hardwood floors throughout, high-end kitchens with state-of-the-art appliances and built-ins. In connection with this project, Baywater made the initial contribution to the Town of Darien’s newly-established Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
- Developed in 2010, 17 Old Kings Highway South, is an 18,000 sq ft Class A office building located in downtown Darien with abundant onsite parking.
David Genovese has led a multi-disciplinary team of architects, civil engineers, landscape architects, retail consultants and legal advisors in creating Your Downtown Darien. Otherwise known as the Corbin Development, Baywater assembled this portfolio of properties over the course of nearly 15 years. These properties will be redeveloped in coming years, creating a mixed-use center incorporating retail, offices, and luxury residences. The fundamental goal for David and his team remains as it always has, to create a community asset that will be cherished now and for generations to come, improving the quality of life for all Darien residents.
