NBC News is reporting that Waterbury has been chosen as one of the pilot communities for CMSC’s Come Home to Downtown program. “”They could be an economic engine for our downtown district,”‘ said Carl Rosa with Main Street Waterbury, speaking of the many buildings that contain retail on the first floor but are vacant or underutilized on the top floors.  Through the program, CMSC will work with a few select owners of these types of buildings to provide guidance on how to create mix-use development in the spaces, in turn helping to spur downtown revitalization.  In the future, this guidance model will be used to assist other building owners to renovate their space to their full potential.  Middletown and Torrington were also chosen to participate in the program.
