Bristol Rising!, an organization that supports local businesses and neighborhoods in Bristol, advocates the use of cash mobs as a way to bring money to local merchants and to educate people on the importance of patronizing area businesses, writes Mark Walerysiak, Jr. in  a blog for the Partnership for Strong Communities.

A cash mob is when citizens choose a business to “mob,” inviting crowds of people to patronize the store on a particular day to both bring visibility to the merchant while providing an economic boost.

Bristol Rising! includes an educational component to their events, saying that studies show up to three times as much of the money spent in area shops is re-circulated locally, compared with the same amount spent in national-chain stores.

Hey Everybody! Let’s Have a Cash Mob!
