The Hartford Line commuter rail system is on target to launch its initial 17 runs a day in January 2018.  This new funding is earmarked for additional upgrades to enable the next phase of the system which will allow for 25 runs each day and plans for stations in North Haven, Enfield, West Hartford and Newington.

Several towns along the route are taking the lead from this new transit option and designating special development zones around their train stations to encourage mixed-use development along the route.  Plans are for moderate-rate housing with restaurants and stores on the ground level to appeal to the Millennials that Connecticut is striving to keep in the state.  Both Wallingford and Meriden are actively seeking this transit-oriented development to expand their appeal to these young residents who could bring great economic growth to their towns.
