The Canton Patch reports that Collinsville plans to submit a Main Street Investment Fund (MSIF) Program grant application.  If awarded, the grant would be used to help fund historically appropriate safety and economic development initatives such as signage to help direct visitors to local businesses, more historically appropriate lighting in the town hall parking lot, additional brick sidewalks, traffic calming measures, increased tree cover in some areas, benches, lighting and brochures highlighting local events.

The Main Street Investment Fund provides grants of up to $500,000 to eligible municipalities that have approved plans to develop or improve their town’s commercial centers.  The MSIF Program is administered by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) through an application process.  Connecticut Main Street Center (CMSC), in collaboration with OPM, held a series of workshops around the State in July and August 2012 to provide information on this program, including who may apply and project eligibility requirements.  Applications for this program are due September 28.
