New Britain has been awarded CMSC’s 2014 Award of Excellence for Public Space, reports the New Britain Herald.  “This recognizes the city’s commitment to implement the plan to bring back the core part of the city,” said Downtown District Director Gerry Amodio.

Public Works Director Mark Moriarty, who oversaw the master plan,  believes the recognition that comes with winning the prestigious CMSC award will help them be viewed favorably, giving the City a competitive edge when applying for funding. Other cities are already taking note of New Britain’s accomplishments, asking for more information on specific initiatives, like New Britain’s head-out angle parking.
